Sitting in the green Parrot bar watching the wind blow across the anchorage. Will be stuck here until Sunday at the earliest. In the meantime here are some pictures. The first shot is of the Cape Floriday Lighthouse. This is one of the most beautifully restored lighthouses I've ever seen. On top of that they let you climb to the top and out to the catwalk around the light. The area also is rich in history, figuring in the history of slavery and the underground railway. Escaped slaves that could not make it north would head to this point and take open boats across the gulf stream to Andros Island where there decendents live today. In the 1820's the lighthouse was attacked by Seminoles who where having issues with being forced to move to Florida and then losing that land. Now the island is home to the rich and famous. The next shot is the Natie M. tied up in Morgans Bluff on Andros Isl. where I cleared customs. This island as I mentioned above, is now the biggest producer of vegetables and fruit for the Bahamas and has some of the best unspoiled reefs and as a result fishing. |
